American Idol Power Rankings: The Top 5
We are down to the final five.
With the elimination of Elise Testone this week, American Idol kicked off its home stretch on season 11, meaning this is an ideal time to line up the remaining contestants in a Power Poll and ask readers who they think will win.
5. Hollie Cavanaugh: She's made a living in the bottom three for weeks now. A perfectly strong voice, deserving of a place in the top five, but next Thursday night should be it for her. Lacks a personality or anything distinct to go with the vocals.
4. Joshua Ledet: We rank him fourth, but wouldn't object to him winning the whole thing. The talent is there, but, to many, so is some yelling and a bit of over-acting. But if you like theatrics, Ledet is your man.
3. Jessica Sanchez: Responsible for the single best performance of the season, her cover of Whitney's "I Will Always Love You." Has a lot of Pia Toscano in her. We mean that as a big compliment.
2. Phillip Phillips: He just can't win, people. Seriously, it would make like five straight handsome white guys who play guitars. The talent is there, the consistency is there, and we feel bad holding David Cook and Kris Allen against Phillip. But we need a change.
1. Skylar Laine: And let's hope Laine benefits from that change. She's fun, she's eccentric, she has her own sound. Her cover of Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" is what American Idol is all about.

Coldplay, Rihanna's Official 'Princess Of China' Video Due In May
Rihanna-starring clip currently making the rounds is actually taken from Coldplay's live show, spokesperson confirms.

By now, you've probably seen the video for Coldplay's "Princess of China." It stars Rihanna as a Shiva-esque deity who waves her (many) arms back and forth in time with the tune but strangely does not actually feature Coldplay themselves.
The clip began making the rounds earlier this week and was not only touted as the "official video" but earned raves from fans of both acts. There's only one problem: It is most definitely not the actual "Princess of China" vid.
In fact, it's part of Coldplay's live show, a video they play during their performance of the song (as several Coldplay aficionados have been pointing out on YouTube). Just to clear up any confusion, we reached out to a spokesperson for the band, who told us in no uncertain terms: "It isn't the official video. ... It is, in fact, a clip that the band are using during their performance of the song on tour."
So there you have it. Of course, this raises the question of just when the real "Princess of China" video will premiere. After all, going by photos RiRi previously tweeted, the clip was filmed back in March. So, once again, we went to Coldplay's rep, who told us that the "Princess" video is still a few weeks away from debuting.
"It won't be finished until the third week of May," the spokesperson said. "It's going to be a minute."

Oil below $102 amid US crude supply increase
SINGAPORE (AP) ? Oil prices lingered below $102 a barrel Wednesday in Asia after a report showed U.S. crude supplies jumped more than expected for a third week, suggesting demand remains weak.
Benchmark oil for May delivery was up 49 cents to $101.51 a barrel at late afternoon Singapore time in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. The contract fell $1.44 to settle at $101.02 in New York on Tuesday.
Brent crude for May delivery was up 20 cents at $120.08 per barrel in London.
The American Petroleum Institute said late Tuesday that crude inventories rose 6.6 million barrels last week while analysts surveyed by Platts, the energy information arm of McGraw-Hill Cos., had predicted an increase of 1.8 million barrels.
Inventories of gasoline rose 1.2 million barrels last week while distillates tumbled 500,000 barrels, the API said.
The Energy Department's Energy Information Administration reports its weekly supply data later Wednesday.
A five-day global stock market sell-off has also undermined optimism among oil traders, who often look to equity markets as a measure of overall investor sentiment. The Dow Jones industrial average fell 1.7 percent Tuesday and most stock markets in Asia dropped Wednesday.
Some analysts expect oil prices will reverse the recent slide from $110 last month as growing crude demand in developing countries tightens global supplies. Goldman Sachs recommended investors buy the U.S. crude September futures contract.
"We expect that the overall oil market will continue to tighten in 2012, pushing oil prices substantially higher to restrain demand," Goldman Sachs said in a report.
In other energy trading, heating oil was up 0.3 cent at $3.10 per gallon and gasoline futures dropped 0.5 cent to $3.24 per gallon. Natural gas rose 1.1 cents to $2.04 per 1,000 cubic feet.

Obese women are more likely to have children who develop autism than are normal-weight women, a new study suggests. The finding adds another possible explanation for the apparent rise in autism.
Reporting in the May Pediatrics, researchers also found that women who were obese or had some form of diabetes during pregnancy were more likely to have kids with developmental delays other than autism. And tests show that a woman?s obesity, diabetes or high blood pressure during pregnancy might even have an effect on her otherwise healthy offspring, placing them at risk of slightly impaired learning.
The new research ?sheds light on potential risk factors for autism and underscores the importance for people who are pregnant ? or trying to get pregnant ? of controlling their risks,? says epidemiologist Hannah Gardener of the University of Miami. ?This is a very strong study.?
The authors note, however, that the findings show associations ? not causes ? of autism or developmental delays. ?We can?t establish causation from this study,? says coauthor Irva Hertz-Picciotto, an epidemiologist at the University of California, Davis. ?But it is interesting that obesity and diabetes are increasing as autism incidence is.? A recent study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention showed that 1 in 88 children born in the United States develops an autism spectrum disorder (SN Online: 4/3/12).
Previous studies have suggested that diabetes and hypertension in pregnancy might pose developmental risks to a fetus, but obesity has been studied less, Hertz-Picciotto says.
The researchers compared the pregnancy histories of mothers of 315 children who were developing normally, 172 children with developmental delays and 517 kids with an autism spectrum disorder ? autism, Asperger?s syndrome and other social interaction problems. Symptoms of these disorders typically include repetitive or restrictive patterns of thoughts and behavior and struggles with language, communication, physical coordination, social skills and the sharing of emotions.
Obese mothers were 67 percent more likely to have an autistic child than normal-weight, healthy moms, the data show. Diabetes in pregnancy had no effect on autism risk, but mothers who were obese or who had some form of diabetes during gestation were about twice as likely to have a child with some form of developmental delay compared with healthier moms.
Many women who were obese, diabetic or hypertensive during pregnancy had children unaffected by autism spectrum disorders or developmental delays. On average, these children scored somewhat lower on tests of learning and adaptive behaviors than the other outwardly healthy kids who had normal-weight moms.
The associations held even after researchers accounted for differences in race, education, time of year the kids were born, geographical region and mother?s age at delivery.?
The researchers could offer only speculation regarding a biological mechanism linking maternal obesity and autism risk, citing high blood sugar and high blood levels of insulin in the gestating mothers as a possible trigger for tissue damage in a fetus.
?We?ve got a long way to go in terms of figuring out environmental risk factors for autism ? and how they interact with genetics,? Gardener says. The new study might spur lab and animal research aimed at finding the underlying cause of autism and other developmental disorders, she says.
